The company will display innovative solutions for the HVAC industry that deliver premium energy efficiency, helping move the HVAC industry in a more sustainable direction
ATLANTA - Feb. 2, 2023
Daikin, the world’s number one air conditioning company, announced that it will spotlight its work to extend the boundaries of energy efficiency at the 2023 AHR Expo. A proud expo exhibitor and attendee for decades, Daikin will display its research and development efforts, core technologies and new offerings, which demonstrate a unified approach to efficiency-focused innovation across the company’s portfolio of brands.
“From homes to high-rises, the climate impact of buildings is largely tied to their ongoing operation,” said Philip Johnston, General Manager, Environmental Business Development Center, Daikin. “HVAC systems account for roughly 40 to 60 percent of energy consumption and associated emissions on a day-to-day basis. So it’s important to make these systems as efficient as possible. Efficiency is the heart of sustainability and Daikin’s legacy.”
With efficiency first, Daikin is able to address a wide range of customer challenges while leading the HVAC industry toward an environment-friendly future. At the AHR Expo, Daikin will showcase its continuous dedication to developing products that have improved environmental features and are “perfecting the air we share,” with a focus on inverter heat pumps, connected intelligence, sustainable indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions, and next-generation refrigerants.
Examples of related Daikin technologies include:
Inverter Heat Pumps
As an industry leader in inverter heat pump technology, Daikin continues to expand its residential and commercial offerings with products engineered to provide a highly efficient source for all-electric, non-fossil fuel burning heating, even in sub-zero climates. Inverter heat pumps are core to the company’s decarbonization strategy, and Daikin offers an extensive lineup of both residential and commercial inverter heat pump systems, providing immense flexibility for both ducted and ductless applications.
Daikin’s residential products range from mid-tier Daikin Fitside-discharge condensers with efficiencies up to 16.2 SEER2 and 8.5 HSPF2 to high-end DZ9VC inverter ducted systems with efficiencies up to 22.5 SEER2 and 8.2 HSPF2. The company also recently launched VRV EMERION for commercial applications, providing either heat pump or heat recovery inverter technology. Heat recovery systems provide simultaneous heating and cooling to both indoor ducted and ductless units that can be scaled to capacities of up to 40 tons with up to 64 indoor units connected to a single system.
Sustainable IAQ Solutions
Daikin recently introduced enhancements to its award-winning line of rooftop units that improve IAQ — sustainably. The Rebel Applied™ packaged rooftop system, as well as Vision® and Skyline® air handlers, are now available with IAQ-boosting Sorbent Ventilation Technology® (SVT®), which provides the clean air changes required for indoor spaces while decreasing the volume of outdoor air needed and total cooling load of facilities. Compared to standard rooftop units, these first-of-their-kind units with integrated SVT can reduce outside ventilation by as much as 80 percent, providing greater control of humidity and comfort, and trim annual energy use by up to 30 percent.
Connected Intelligence
Contractors and homeowners expect connected devices and remote control through the Internet of Things (IoT), and Daikin’s IoT infrastructure lets contractors efficiently monitor and optimize systems for enhanced customer service. For example, Dakin One Cloud Services for residential customers is available with the Daikin One+ smart thermostat or the new Daikin One touch thermostat. Daikin One Cloud Services can provide 24/7 remote monitoring from a contractor authorized by the homeowner. Homeowners can also control their Daikin One+ smart thermostat or Daikin One touch thermostat remotely using the Daikin One home app.
Next-Generation Refrigerants
Daikin makes careful choices when it comes to refrigerants, weighing safety, environmental impact, energy efficiency and cost effectiveness. The company’s research shows that the low-global warming potential (GWP), combined with the high capacity and efficiency of R-32 refrigerant makes it the right choice for customers and the environment. Daikin ATMOSPHERA, the next generation of single zone ductless products, is the first split system R-32 offering in North America. Daikin ATMOSPHERA reduces GWP by up to 80% compared to similar R-410A systems and R-32 has been shown to increase efficiency by up to 12% over R-410A with comparable products, lowering electricity consumption.
